Welcome to the video! Today, we're diving into a bizarre story: a Formula 1-looking car spotted on a Czech highway. But is it what it seems?
In August 2022, a video went viral showing a car that looked suspiciously like a Ferrari F1 car speeding down the D4 highway in the Czech Republic.
But it wasn't a real F1 car...
It was actually a GP2 car, disguised to look like an older F1 car. GP2, now Formula 2, was a support series for F1, and these cars share some similarities.
"GP2 cars might look like Formula 1 cars but they aren’t. They’re similar, as GP2 (now Formula 2) was an F1 support series from 2005-2008." The Drive, 2022
This particular GP2 car, likely built by Dallara, boasted a powerful Mecachrome 4.0-liter V8 engine, producing a hefty 603 horsepower.
The driver, cleverly concealed by a helmet and racing overalls, mostly obeyed traffic laws. But driving a race car on a public highway is incredibly dangerous and illegal. These cars lack crucial safety features for public roads.
"These specialized machines do not meet standard roadworthy specs and are only allowed to be driven on race tracks and closed circuits." Motor1, 2022
This wasn't the first time this happened...
A similar incident occurred in 2019. The police investigated, but couldn't definitively identify the driver due to the disguise.
The driver got away with a fine and a warning...
But they're back...
The Czech police are currently searching for the driver. This reckless act highlights the serious risks involved and the need for stricter enforcement.
Driving a race car on a public road is illegal and incredibly dangerous. Let's hope they're caught soon.
